FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
When do you expect to have ‘The Advertisement’ finished?
I hope to have it all wrapped up by the end of March 2024 and be published on Kindle in early April.
Why are you letting everybody read it for free?
Great question. I’m hoping that enough people will sign up and read the book until the end to build up a groundswell of interest. Then when it is published, I’m going to ask everybody to write a review on Amazon. To do so, they will probably have to ‘buy’ a copy, but I’ll make it available for free for a couple of weeks after it is released.
Isn’t that going to cost you a lot of money in lost sales?
No, not really. It’s hard to get anything an audience these days, so I’d rather do it this way, and get readers, than hope that people will find it on its own.
Is what we’re reading going to change?
Definitely. The chapters I’m publishing may change slightly for two reasons; the first is that I’m editing them, and the 2nd is that one of my readers may come up with a brilliant idea I hadn’t thought of. Wherever possible though, those ideas will appear in a new chapter.
The chapter order may differ in the final publication.
You said that ‘one of my readers may come up with a brilliant idea’. Isn’t that the authors job?
Of course it is but that doesn’t mean to say that I’m going to ignore great suggestions or ideas from others. Much of writing is based on something else we’ve read or seen; in other words, it’s derivative. The core idea is mine and most of the story is mine.
I saw somewhere that readers are being asked to create ‘fictional’ profiles for the Applicants. Why aren’t you doing that?
I already am, but thought it would be fun to see what other people come up with. There are 10 successful applicants, and thus I need 10 comprehensive profiles. This will involve filling in a form with a number of questions to determine suitability.
